Welcome!

This is In Ten Photos, a weekly photography newsletter by Samuel Tegge. I’m shooting this off to you from Manitou Springs, Colorado. Common swifts trill and swoop overhead as a stream runs by my feet. The mountains shiver as the wind sweeps through the pines. Now a territorial jay screams and dive bombs me. This is possibly the universe telling me to get on with it.

Alright, alright—I get it! Moving on.

This week’s photos are a collection from a week spent in Kauai, The Garden Island in the Hawaiian Islands. Kauai‘s natural beauty is indisputable; however Kauai’s people are the islands true treasure. Despite the crushing cost of living and the tsunami of myopic, selfie tourists, the people here overflow with joy and love, resilience and hope. Many did not want me to photograph them, but I plan to return for a project about the people of Kauai. I hope they are less self-conscious. Until then, enjoy these snapshots and remember we live in a beautiful world filled with wonderful people, animals, and places.

Thank you for being here and enjoy!
